Target audience
Candidates preparing for part 2 (Clinical and Oral ) component of the UK and International FRCS Exam.
Overview
• This course provides an opportunity to develop your techniques and skills prior to your final FRCS (Tr&Orth) examination.
• Our Experienced faculty have been hand picked for their excellent teaching and communication skills. They will guide you and provide invaluable feedback.
• To ensure the very best experience, candidates will be split into small groups of only two participants, and rotate through exam stations.
• Each station will have at least two faculty providing a 1:1 teaching ratio.
• All faculty are experienced with the FRCS exam and actively involved in FRCS teaching.
Course Aims
• We believe that if a candidate understands how and why the exam acts as an assessment tool ,this will increase their chances of success.
• The aim of the course is to make sure that every attending candidate is in the best possible position to pass the exam.
• Help candidates develop the structure, presentation and content of their answer.
• Non-verbal communication skills are developed during these sessions.
• Identify your strengths and weaknesses related to knowledge and skills covered by the FRCS exam.
• Tips on how to improve your score in the exam.
• Advice on the use of key words and phrases.
• Provide each candidate with individualised feedback on their performance at each station.
Structure of the Course
Candidates are divided into participants and observers with only two participants per station and unlimited number of observers. Observers are not examined, but are permitted to ask questions. Each participating candidate will rotate through eight stations:
1. Basic Sciences
2. Adult Pathology
3. Paediatrics & Hands
4. Trauma
5. Intermediate Case – Upper Limb
6. Intermediate Case – Lower LimbShort Cases – Upper Limb
7. Short Cases – Upper Limb
8. Short Cases – Lower Limb

Time Table UK Time
09:30 – 10:00 : Registration.
10:00 : Tips & Tricks. Lectures for both Viva and Clinicals.
10:30 : Start of the Mock Exam (8 Stations of 30 minutes each)
Lunch break after 4 stations.
3:30 :Q&A plus examiners’ top tips.
Marking Criteria
Each participant is given an outcome (clear pass, clear fail or borderline) at the end of their question. The outcome grade is based on:
Methodical approach to your answer.
Your ability for clear decision making.
Minimal prompting.
Familiarity with supportive literature
